Addison is a member of the Goodblood family, a family with very strong ties to Seven Devils and a history of very powerful witches, usually veering towards the lighter side of powers.
Addison is the only surviving child of the current matriarch of the Goodblood line, Louisa. Despite the dedication of her cousins, Addison is Louisa's heir to take on the position at the head of the family.
For now, Addison manages Runes & Relics, a local occult and oddities store in town, known for being reliable to obtain even the most obscure of pieces.
By a lot of standards, Addison is a cheery, welcoming and friendly sort. She has radiant blond hair and a disposition towards helping that's hard to miss, coupled with her powerful but comforting aura, she puts people at ease rather quickly.
It doesn't take long for people to notice a hint of something sad below the surface though, something a little less sunny and bright. Addison's life has been touched by such tragedy that it's visible in her eyes when you know what the look for.
Deeper down, beneath everything she presents to the world, Addison has darker urges that she needs to keep a tight leash on, something very few people have ever seen.
true altruists, meeting kindness with kindness-in-excess and engaging the work and people they believe in with enthusiasm and generosity, ISFJ personalities are often meticulous to the point of perfectionism, and though they procrastinate, they can always be relied on to get the job done on time.
they take their responsibilities personally, consistently going above and beyond, doing everything they can to exceed expectations and delight others, at work and at home.
supportive, patient, reliable. hard working, loyal, enthusiastic, observant.
too altruistic, takes things personally, overloads self, humble and shy.
bottles things up, close to breaking. pushes emotions down.
has itchy feet; since she was a child, Addison has wanted nothing more than to travel. Having achieved a lot of travelling, she still wants to do more. She has a wall in her bedroom that has a map of the world blown up as a wallpaper and Addison regularly plans trips to far away places to occupy her mind.
as the oldest of this generation of Goodblood's, Addison is expected to take her mother's place as the head of the family, preferably soon in her mother's opinion. This would mean fully committing to staying Seven Devils and immersing herself in magic studies. Addison is resistant due to her need to travel more, and continues to make excuses to not take over.
Addison has a small scar atop her left breast from when a dark creature, controlled by a black witch, almost pierced her heart in Cambodia; to this day, Addison doesn't know what the witch wanted her heart for, but she obliterated the creature with her first ever magical burst of raw power, backlashing into the witch controlling it. It resulted in a three week stay in a terrible Cambodian hospital before she could fully recover and leave. It was her first brush with death due to an attack from a dark witch and her first major hospital stay due to magical drain.
misses the closeness she once had with her younger sister, but is entirely aware that blame is placed entirely on her for their brother's death. Addison blames herself just as much as Clarice does. Only their father doesn't blame Addison, aware that Alex should've known better, however his attempts to convince Addison of this fall on deaf ears.
always wears a necklace with a circle of silver, it was given to her by her brother on the night of her prom, a few weeks before he died. Addison never takes it off, has replaced the broken chain three times and almost tore a hotel room apart when she thought she'd lost it. It's a very emotional trigger but something Addy refuses to ever part with.
at the risk of being a cliche, for her 31st birthday, Addy got herself a kitten. She's an exceptionally playful tortoiseshell named Princess Leia that Addy is absolutely besotted with.
by and large, Addison spends most of her time at the store she manages, Runes & Relics, where she uses her connections from travelling to ensure that the store has the best and freshest occult items. She keeps a stock of the typical tourist things, while also supplying a lot of local witches with their required goods.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Addy comes from a long line of witches, people with ties in light and dark magic. However, Addison rarely dabbles in the darker side of things, pulling strength from the light magic.
as ever, Addison is a capable caster, she is capable of constructing barrier and protection spells on her own, while she uses her families older books for more complex spells. Addison has a few offensive spells memorised but it starting to build her own book of protection and barrier spells.
while not an extensive skill, Addison has some talents in enchanting items, this also allows her some small degree of power in glamours and mesmerising others, Addy is not fully trained in this, nor is she fully capable. Her glamours tend to be limited to small changes in her own appearance from time to time and last only a few hours with her full concentration on the enchantment. Her small attempts at mesmerising others are rarely ill-minded and are easily broken.
Addison has an extensive talent in conjuration, the ability to summon. While her strongest suit is summoning items, she can summon portals and spirits with a little work. She has summoned creatures before, but has been left drained and feeling ill afterwards. Addison dislikes the residual feelings she's left with when summoning creatures or spirits and tends to avoid it where possible.
Addison's speciality is evocation, using physical, spiritual and psychic forces of nature. This has strong ties in her ability with conjuration and is often linked to spirits and beings not of this world. While Addison is immensely powerful in this area, she is largely under-trained due in most parts to her unwillingness to fully embrace using spirits and creatures to further her potential. This stance of hers causes friction with her mother.
Addy is able to transfer her life force and energy into a magical power, this is a raw magical blast that drains Addison for a length of time depending on what she's using and how much she uses. This is, at it's core, Addison blasting her raw magic into something else with extreme power. This is Addison's strongest offence but also exceptionally dangerous due to how weak it leaves her physically and magically for any length of time afterwards. As a result, she uses it sparingly.
The Goodblood family are a large staple in the magical community, having spread across America in general over the centuries, the most recent generations have settled in Seven Devils, living there for almost two centuries now. Addison was the second born child to Miles and Louisa, as Louisa was the direct descendant of the Goodblood line, her children carried her name with their magical heritage. A few years after Addison was born, Clarice joined the family, rounding off the Goodblood tradition of three offspring.
Addison grew up with magic all around her, her mother never hid what they were and believed that educating her children early would be a good method of encouraging their abilities to flourish well. It worked very well, Alexander, their eldest, took very quickly to conjuration, able to master the art at a very young age. The three siblings were very close as they grew up, learning and practising. While Addison made numerous friends through school, a vivacious and friendly girl, Alex was mostly aloof and loner, which meant Addison spent a lot of her free time with her brother, ensuring that he was never lonely.
It wasn't until Addison's senior year that it changed. Louisa's guidance in the crafts had always encouraged trials and experiments with their magic, although she had often demanded that they do it within the basement of the house, where the areas were warded and protected, so as to take every precaution for curious and powerful teenagers. Alex, during an afternoon where everyone was out of the house, attempted a different kind of conjuration, summoning a creature from beyond into the house, not the warded basement.
Addison was the one to return to the house first, finding the creature with her brother. Her automatic response was to ward off the house so that it could not escape, however it meant her dying brother was trapped with the creature. Addison was left to stand by the barriers as the creature beat her brother to death in front of her. Louisa was the one to finally return home and vanquish the creature to hell.
Addison withdrew almost entirely from her craft.
The result of Alexander's death was shattering. Addison withdrew from her magical practises, and in many ways from her family in general. She felt the weight of guilt at freezing up at the prospect of the creature. She felt she could've saved her brother if she'd just remained calm and knew more about offensive spells. Instead of throwing herself into magic lessons, Addison withdrew almost entirely from her craft. Her once close relationship with Clarice was strained, partially by Addison's trauma from witnessing Alex's death and partly in Clarice's blame of the death on Addison. Something Clarice would hold onto for years to come.
With the end of Addison's high school a blur of grief and trauma, Addison left Seven Devils the moment she could, taking her dad's old beat up car and travelling to New York, sight seeing all the tourist attractions through the summer. Addison stuck to hostels and occasionally sleeping in the car, spreading her summer fund as long as she could before eventually needing to return home to Seven Devils in the late August. But the travel bug had bit, and Addison wasn't prepared to settle down at home, where nothing but bad memories seemed to last. Striking a deal with her parents, Addison prepared to travel the world, promising to use the opportunity to learn new cultures and their magical customs.
Having a much better fund to travel, Addy set her sights on Europe, travelling through the central point of Romania and into Hungary, starting with her study of olden witchcraft and occultism there. Before long however, Addison's travelling became less about her magical study and more for a simple love of travelling. She worked her way through Europe, sending small tokens of historical relevance back to her mom so that she believed Addison was still working on her magic. It wasn't until she reached Asia that Addison returned to looking at her magical lessons again.
In Thailand Addison began creating her own wards and barrier spells, something she was still continuously good with. Creating her own meant that when she ran afoul of a local witch, she had the safety of a harder to negate spell to protect her. In a small battle of wills with the other witch, Addison came out on top through her summoning of spiritual forces to confuse and subdue the local. Addison moved on soon after, leaving the other witch behind with mild wounds and a damaged ego.
It was in Cambodia that Addison discovered the raw potential in her magic. Addison was camping, backpacking and working through the ruins of the Cambodian temples when she was caught up by a demonic creature in the ruins. It stalked Addy for three days, despite her use of blocking and barrier spells. It culminated in a fight that Addison almost lost, the creature attempting to claw out her heart, Addison took a talon to the chest, piercing over her heart, before she unleashed a blast of raw magic that disintegrated the beast and left Addison drained and weak. She was found by locals and taken to a hospital where she spent three weeks recuperating. When her strength and magic returned, Addison booked a flight out of Cambodia and flew to London.
Learning to trust herself again with the power she held.
For the first time since Addison left Seattle she called her mother, explaining what had happened in the hopes of getting some insight as to why it happened. Louisa sent Addison to a family friend in Croydon, where Addison ended up staying for several months to learn about her raw potential and the draw backs of it. It was there that Addy met Parker, assistant to her mother's friend and a witch in training himself. The two grew close, Parker encouraging Addison to test her abilities further, to reacquaint herself with her magic and attempt more. It was a relearning that Addison found she enjoyed, taking to her magic again very well, learning to trust herself again with the power she held.
Over the course of those few months, Addison and Parker grew closer, embarking on a tentative relationship while Addison completed some additional training in enchantments and learning to craft her own spells. They were mostly content with the situation, until Addison really found her stride, learning to harness her power in it's raw form without the need for an emotional trigger or life or death situation. It caused some small fights between the pair, Parker striving to be better than Addison in his own field while she was just attempting to learn.
Unbeknown to Addison, pressure from Parker's own family put upon him meant that he turned to the darker arts in a bid to boost his own abilities, it sparked a bit of a personality change in Parker, growing argumentative, impatient and quick to anger. It resulted in Parker growing susceptible to possession, something that was narrowly avoided with Addison and her new mentor binding Parker's powers, warding him against possible demons and locking his power away. Obviously, that was met with some anger and yet more blame, which resulted in Addison leaving against and opting to travel over to Ireland to continue some searching while avoiding the fall out with Parker's de-magicking.
It was in Ireland that Addy met Molly Donovan, a witch in a fairly similar situation to Addy as far as she could tell. They didn't talk a lot about their pasts, although Addison knew that Molly's family situation was as complicated as her own, but Molly's neutral stance on the craft was a refreshing and new insight for Addison to receive. However, after just a short while, Molly started to get somewhat anxious about Addison's continued presence near her. Not wanting to pry or cause further pain, Addison used the excuse to take her leave and started working her way home to Seattle, taking the long route through South America on the way there.
South America opened Addison up to a lot of things. Not least the fact that there were all sorts of things in the world now. It was in Uruguay that Addy encountered a Duca, a part of Brazilian lore, a large cat like creature that stalked human prey. It had mystical markings, which sparked Addy to attempt to banish or vanquish the creature, to protect the people in the area. Addison chased the beast from Uruguay, through Argentina and Bolivia to Brazil, unaware that the creature was leading her to it's pack. In Brazil, Addison narrowly escaped an ambush thanks to a local hunter who figured out the trick.
Assisting the Hunter in destroying the pack drained Addison further of magic, as she protected a group of Brazilian fighters as they launched their own ambush on the duca group. Addison constructed her own barrier spell to absorb any damage the animals dealt the hunters, allowing them near impenetrable force fields while they killed the beasts. The result was a safer area in Brazil for the locals, and Addison sustaining magical whiplash from absorbing the mystical energy from the ducas. She bore a few scratches that slowly faded, but her magic took a while to return to any noticeable strength. Aware that attempting to travel from there on through to Seattle would wear her out further, Addy booked a flight from Brazil to home, preparing herself to stop running from her past and face her future head on.
Returning home was incredibly daunting for Addison, not least because of the expectations her mother had for her upon her return, the still strained relationship with her sister and her lack of current understanding for the world in general leaving her a little off balance. For the most part, it went smoother than she'd have thought. Her mother seemed pleased just to have her home, and her father was just as thrilled. While Clarice was still bitter and a little distant, the sisters were able to begin repairing things between them.
Seattle also brought new friends. Addison finding a job at the magic shop she frequented as a youth, finding a kindred spirit in Kaspar Hale, a recent addition to Seattle and a witch from a Romanian family line. Kaspar was witty and charming, able to woo Addison's family with his vast knowledge and eagerness to learn. It wasn't long before Addison was clearly smitten, and with the obvious approval of her family, she took the plunge with Kaspar, delighted in sharing not only her magic but her family with someone so like minded.
Navigating a relationship, building both their skills and learning from each other and with each other was a welcome brightness in Addison's life, given the sheer insanity that came with living in Seattle. Between the outing of witches and the carnage that followed that rather quickly, numerous instances of magical and mystical chaos and the return of both Addison's high school friend Samuel and Kaspar's eldest sister Arianna, the couple faced several hurdles.
It was made even worse the more it became clear that Samuel wasn't himself. When Kaspar discovered that Samuel was being used as the vessel for the Hell Knight Beezlebub, the pair and their friends started looking into how to free Samuel. The answer came with Kaspar was approached by an ancient Celtic Deity, The Morrigan. Asked to be her Champion, Kaspar accepted after some deliberation and used the power Morrigan aided him with and his own knowledge to pull Beelzebub out of Samuel.
While the current threat seems contained, neither Addison nor Kaspar are lowering their guard.
